
Venous Ulcers
This is the final manifestation of venous stasis disease. Although venous ulcers may have an onset in early adulthood, they increase in frequency with age and peak at approximately 70 years. The ratio of female to males 3:1 after the age of 40 years with an equal incidence before 40 years of age.
Non Venous ulceration arterial disease, trauma, infection, neurological, blood disease and neoplastic.
The cost of treating leg ulcers is very expensive, therefore optimising treatment or better yet prevention is important. Because leg ulcers frequently take much longer to heal with bedrest and nursing care, this form of therapy is impractical. Although ulceration are more in patients who had deep venous thrombosis. All venous ulceration have either superficial venous reflux or incompetent perforator or both.
Venous ulcers appear in the gaiter areas and arterial ulcers commonly in the front and side of the lower leg.
