Spider Veins

Although spider veins are most commonly located on the legs as a  result of gravity effect, it can also be found on the face, feet ,hands, trunk, nose and back. Over 50% of adults have one or more leg spider veins and women are more likely to seek treatment to eliminate the spider veins.

What are Spider Veins:

Spider Veins(Telangectasias are the medical term) are very small venues that are located just under the skinned therefore are easily seen . There colour is often red with or without a predominant bluish tinge. The size is less than 1 mm in diameter. The pattern is like a stardust.

What is the cause of spider veins ?

Spider veins (Telangectasias) develop when the deeper vein function abnormal. Reflux or backward flow develop in the standing or sitting position in the deeper veins. The resulting high pressure in the skin venues can cause them to enlarge into a cosmetic blemish. This is very important since the failure to recognise and treat the underlying cause can result in the inability to eliminate the spider vein for any significant period of time. The likelihood that an underlying circulatory disorder of the body causing spider veins are more likely if the spider veins are associated with pain or swelling. There are many other causes which must be considered including congenital and secondary conditions such as exposures(chemicals, radiation) and blunt trauma.

How are spider veins treated?

The first step is to make sure the spider veins are not a sign of some deeper problem such as venous insufficiency(reflux in larger veins) or other medical problems.

There are two treatments available: Radio frequency ablation(RFA) to close the veins or chemical reaction induced by medication to close the veins. Which method are used depends on the location of the vein.  The chemical reaction process(sclerotherapy) use the safest medication a the market called Fibrovein.

When spider veins are located on other locations such as face or feet , RFA is used for treatment. RFA devices has a generator that produce the thermocoagulation of the spider veins .With an extremely sharp needle tip the treatment is almost painless and causes only very light stains that completely disappear within a few days. Because of the constant and accurate controllable power and limited skin contact., there are no burns, necrosis or scars and the skin pigmentation will be avoided. The insulated needle coagulates the small spider veins with minimal damage to the skin. The treatment will immediately give sustainable results.
