Pigmentation
Pigmentation is a sign of venous disease. This is brownish darkening of the skin in the ankle area but may extend to the leg and foot. The elongated distended veins, with stasis are more susceptible than normal veins. Minor blunt injuries may cause rupture of the veins with the red blood cells and causes this pigmentation. The movement of red blood cells out of the veins are due to hypertension(high pressure) in the vessels. After the venous disease is corrected, a Switched laser specific for hemosiderien can be used to remove the pigmentation.
